Hello again, and welcome back to the Maui Barefoot Brief.
We’re really excited to be doing this and to see it starting to grow. The idea is still simple: share some of the best parts of Maui and keep everyone up to date on fun happenings around the island for locals and visitors alike.
As this grows, we’re also hoping to start stirring up some casual meetups and community events in the near future. Stay tuned for more on that soon.
STORMY SEAS
This past weekend Maui got hit with one of the stronger storms we’ve seen in a while. Roads flooded in several areas and got washed out, including a large part of a sidewalk and roadway in South Maui, which I’ve never seen before.
Even though the rain has mostly moved on, things are still a bit tender around the island. There may still be loose rocks, debris, or unstable areas along roads and walkways.
If you’re out and about this week, take it slow and be mindful of closures. It’s also a good time to check in on neighbors and give space to the crews and first responders who are still out there cleaning things up.
Just a reminder to be cautious and patient while everything gets sorted out.

DON’T FORGET
The ocean will look a bit brown after the storm, it’s best to wait until it clears up before swimming or snorkeling. Heavy rain washes sediment and runoff into the ocean, which can affect visibility and water quality.

That’s it for this week’s Maui Barefoot Brief. We’d love to hear from you — if there’s something happening around the island or something you’d like to see here, just hit reply and let us know. Community tips and feedback are always welcome. See you next week! Aloha!
